Welcome to Plano

An affluent, family-friendly Dallas suburb

An affluent city in Collin County, Plano is the ninth largest in Texas. The city was founded in the 1840s when the development of a gristmill, sawmill, postal service, and store made it an attractive location. The name comes from the Spanish word “flat,” affectionately describing the landscape. Many corporate headquarters make their home in the city, and the community enjoys a family-friendly, fun atmosphere.

Things to Do

A great place to shop, eat, and enjoy the day, the Shops at Legacy have upscale and casual restaurants, a bustling nightlife, and the hottest brands. The shopping mall is home to many eateries, beauty services, and upscale retailers. Meanwhile, Legacy West lines the street with stores and restaurants. It is a popular destination, hosting kids’ clubs, pop-up shops, live music, and much more in addition to shopping.

Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve covers 800 acres from the north edge of Chaparral Road to the east border of Los Rios Boulevard to Parker Road to the south and Spring Creek Parkway to the west, making it Plano’s largest park. With five miles of nature trails and almost eight miles of concrete hiking or biking trails, the park is a great place to walk and enjoy nature. It also has a creek, a small lake, an amphitheater, and a pavilion.

With a mission to interpret, preserve, and collect any Blackland Prairie history from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries, Heritage Farmstead Museum has restored the Farrell-Wilson farmstead to meet these goals. The 4.5-acre farm paints a picture of Texas pioneer life on the Victorian farmhouse built in 1891. It is listed as a Historic Place in the National Register and has received recognition from the American Association of Museums.
