Things to Do

Lovingly preserved, Downtown McKinney is one of the largest and oldest historic districts in the state. Attracting visitors from all over the United States and internationally, it has over 120 distinctive shops. Guests can shop, walk the square, taste wine, see a show, or enjoy live music. The combination of old and new, nostalgia and progress, gives the square a unique charm.

The Heard-Craig Center for the Arts sets up its antiques and art collection inside a historic mansion. With a mission to support the fine arts, honor the Heard and Craig families’ legacy, and provide a place for educational organizations to meet, it is passionate about art and education. It also provides afternoon tea if desired. 

Covering 2.5 acres shaded by impressive trees, Chestnut Square Historic Village is not far from downtown McKinney. Visitors step back in time, as the village is replete with houses from between 1854 and 1930 and also boasts a general store. It provides venues, rentals, history demonstrations, tours, and community events.

A multi-purpose building ideal for any meeting or special event, the McKinney Performing Arts Center features 427 seats. At the core of a historic district surrounded by shops and restaurants, the theater puts on many live events, such as concerts, comedy, theater, and off-broadway performances.
